During President Hugo Chavez's weekly broadcast on Friday he dared the US to place his nation on our list of terrorist sponsors. Chavez calls our threat to place Venezuela on the terrorist list as another political reason for the US to undermine Chavez and Venezuela. If Chavez wants to be placed on our terrorist sponsor list, I say we put him on it. Its not like he's sent millions of dollars to FARC, a left wing terrorist group that is attempting to overthrow the Colombian government.
US Representatives Connie Mack and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Florida Republicans, have requested that the US State Department add Venezuela to the list after Colombia released information retrieved from computers in last weeks military strike against FARC. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is in Brazil right now giving speeches about how every UN member is required to apprehend and shut down any terrorists that may be operating in their territory, including Venezuela.
Chavez is being his usual self by proclaiming that everyone but him is the enemy. In his televised speech on Friday, Chavez is quoted on saying:
CNN"Let them make that list and shove it in their pocket," Chavez said in a televised speech.
"We shouldn't forget for an instant that we're in a battle against North American imperialism," Chavez said. "On this continent, they have us as enemy No. 1."
